The ultimate bug wars wasp Vs the deadly and dangerous Redback spider. This is an amazing show of how looking like a wasp can save your life against a tank full of spiders. But no one ever told the killer spiderlings that wasps are deadly to spiders. The wasp in this video is a beetle mimicking a wasp and it fools the female redback spiders totally. These killer spiders have a ton of respect for the beetle wasp. I never expected to find one of these wasp beetles. I'll be honest here this beetle flies like a wasp, sounds like a wasp, moves like a wasp and obviously this game of looking like a wasp is an amazing survival ability considering that Redback spiders love to capture and kill beetles. I'm sure my audience will know far more than me in relation to the tricks beetles play in nature. I can assure you this bug battle totally caught me by surprise. To understand how I have a tank full of deadly spiders it's worth seeing how it all started. Links to the spiders on the toys below.

The Redback spider (Latrodectus hasseltii) is a species of venomous spider indigenous to Australia. It is a member of the cosmopolitan genus Latrodectus, the widow spiders. The adult female is easily recognised by her spherical black body with a prominent red stripe on the upper side of her abdomen and an hourglass-shaped red/orange streak on the underside. Females have a body length of about 10 millimetres (0.4 in), while the male is much smaller, being only 3â4 mm (0.12â0.16 in) long. Mainly nocturnal, the female Redback lives in an untidy web in a warm sheltered location, commonly near or inside human residences. It preys on insects, spiders and small vertebrates that become ensnared in its web. It kills its prey by injecting a complex venom through its two fangs when it bites, before wrapping them in silk and sucking out the liquefied insides. Male spiders and spiderlings often live on the periphery of the female spiders' web and steal leftovers. Other species of spider and parasitoid wasps prey on this species. The Redback is one of few arachnids which usually display sexual cannibalism while mating. The sperm is then stored in the spermathecae, organs of the female reproductive tract, and can be used up to two years later to fertilise several clutches of eggs. Each clutch averages 250 eggs and is housed in a round white silken egg sac. The Redback spider has a widespread distribution in Australia, and inadvertent introductions have led to established colonies in New Zealand, Japan, and in greenhouses in Belgium.
The redback is one of the few spider species that can be seriously harmful to humans, and its preferred habitat has led it to being responsible for the large majority of serious spider bites in Australia.
Clytus arietis, the wasp beetle, is a wasp-mimicking longhorn beetle species in the genus Clytus. It reaches 9â18 millimetres (0.35â0.71 in) in length, and flies well in sunshine from May to July, often visiting flowers for pollen and nectar. It is harmless but is protected by its wasp-like colours and movements, making it a Batesian mimic. The larvae live in dead wood. It also emanates a wasp buzz-like noise when threatened. They can be seen wandering around on flowers from late spring to early summer, and they are easily mistaken for wasps. They are not to be confused with another wasp-mimicking longhorn beetle, Strangalia maculata. These Beetles use Batesian mimicry. It's a form of mimicry where a harmless species has evolved to imitate the warning signals of a harmful species directed at a predator of them both. It is named after the English naturalist Henry Walter Bates, after his work on butterflies in the rainforests of Brazil.
