Final deadly spider study as I return to the Redback spider release area at the wrecked car in the bush. This relocation seated the spider in a natural environment with all the natural bugs for food and predators. It wasn't too long before I noticed a large spider killing wasp and there were many in the area. One had a giant Huntsman spider captured and was dragging it to its wasp lair where she will lay eggs into the paralysed spider. But do these wasps also target Redback spiders? In a weird way this deadly spider was far safer living in her spider tank. The real world of nature is survival of the fittest. This spider has already proven to me she can take out anything thrown into the spider tank. But can she survive in her natural habitat. Sadly nature can be so cruel, it's a tough life in the real world.
My Redback spider study started when the Tonka toys in the backyard had Redback spiders. When I started taking a careful look around I soon realised I had a full blown deadly spider infestation. I turned this nightmare into a study of these amazing spiders.

Cryptocheilus bicolor (orange spider wasp) is a large, strikingly coloured spider wasp from Australia. This wasp is a predator of the huntsman spiders (family Sparassidae) and wolf spiders (Lycosidae). It paralyses the spider by stinging it in its underside. The prey is then and dragged to a burrow, dug by the female using shovel-like hairs on its front legs. The wasp then lays an egg on the spider, and conceals the nesting chamber at the end of the burrow. When the grub hatches it feeds on the spider before pupating in a thin silky cocoon in the cell.
The Redback spider (Latrodectus hasseltii) is a species of venomous spider indigenous to Australia. It is a member of the cosmopolitan genus Latrodectus, the widow spiders. The adult female is easily recognised by her spherical black body with a prominent red stripe on the upper side of her abdomen and an hourglass-shaped red/orange streak on the underside. Females have a body length of about 10 millimetres (0.4 in), while the male is much smaller, being only 3â4 mm (0.12â0.16 in) long. Mainly nocturnal, the female Redback lives in an untidy web in a warm sheltered location, commonly near or inside human residences. It preys on insects, spiders and small vertebrates that become ensnared in its web. It kills its prey by injecting a complex venom through its two fangs when it bites, before wrapping them in silk and sucking out the liquefied insides. Male spiders and spiderlings often live on the periphery of the female spiders' web and steal leftovers. Other species of spider and parasitoid wasps prey on this species. The Redback is one of few arachnids which usually display sexual cannibalism while mating. The sperm is then stored in the spermathecae, organs of the female reproductive tract, and can be used up to two years later to fertilise several clutches of eggs. Each clutch averages 250 eggs and is housed in a round white silken egg sac. The Redback spider has a widespread distribution in Australia, and inadvertent introductions have led to established colonies in New Zealand, Japan, and in greenhouses in Belgium.
The redback is one of the few spider species that can be seriously harmful to humans, and its preferred habitat has led it to being responsible for the large majority of serious spider bites in Australia.
