Let's explore the St Lukes Model Train Exhibition 2018. This train show is attached to a church so there's always lots of hand of God shots to assist the trains. I was using a very small Sony camera I normally wouldn't use! Somehow it's done an amazing job in what is very tricky lighting conditions. This years train show was held in May to get away from the heat of Summer. In part 1 we will look at these model railway displays.
Civic (Ian Williamson) This is a small N Scale city themes layout featuring trains and busses. It features buildings by Tomytec and Kato.
Defty (St Lukes Club Layout) This year running British 00 gauge rolling stock mainly Hornby trains. This layout is shaped like a dog bone and allows club members to run their trains on long straights. It also set up to run the Hornby Live Steam trains.
Binawyle (Wayne & Kyle Lewis) This beautiful and highly detailed N Scale layout has an Australian theme but elements of Sodor Island can be seen. Between seeing big heavy diesels and classic Australian steam trains you may see Thomas, Percy or Henry flashing by. The layout is set at a child friendly height and there is lots to look at. The painted scenery background is a lovely cheat of perspective.
Defty (Live Steam Demo 1) I return to Defty to see the Hornby Live Steam and there is trouble. The A4 Mallard is struggling to steam up. Rob Evans who runs the live steam demos tries everything to make the stubborn steam engine work. This style of model trains can be difficult to run, it's definitely not for beginners. I return in Part 2 to see how Rob gets the Hornby Live Steam running.
Legeauxland 2018 (Richie Dulin) This layout is a complex LEGO amusement part that is interactive with the audience. Push a button to see the various park rides move. A custom LEGO train weaves around the park. There are many popular LEGO franchises and themes represented. Richie changes this display every year and truly displays his building skills in the complex motorized amusement park rides. Maybe the most amazing aspect to this display is how much is going on in a small area.
Dunblurtin (East Hills Model Railway Club) This Australian themed layout is N Scale. It's highly detailed and based on the Southern Highlands of NSW. The buildings are in the style of Old Saltbush cartoon strip. This layout was built in 1990 and has been displayed at many model train shows. Those running this layout are kept busy changing rolling stock in the yards behind the display area. What really made this feel real was the low speed the N Scale trains were doing. The layout was set at a child friendly height and looked just like the Australian environment. Lots of nice miniature details and the feeling of being a town in decline was the icing on the cake.
