After a series of devastating storms and massive hail damage to my tile roof it's time to look at whats happening under the tiles. I enter the area above my ceiling that looks like a winter wonderland of cheap n nasty paper insulation. I can see how water has caused damage under the tiles, sarking has collapsed and wet areas of ceiling insulation. But the most amazing find was seeing a Redback Spider setting up a home above the kitchen area. This is not the realm of these styles of spiders. As it stands I have had a second independent inspection of my damaged roof tiles and that report is is very different to the first insurance assessment that didn't report much tile damage at all. Considering the many very small cracks and large hail impacts on my terracotta tiles I'm thinking the second assessment is far more accurate. In Australia we do not put plywood or sheathing under a tile system. I know in the USA that's a fairly common process and maybe it would be nice to see it implemented in Australia.
I also update what's going on with the Subaru hail damage fraud case where an insurance company has had a fraud investigator do a forensic examination of the hail dents on the car. It's a fascinating case to look over because of the methods used by insurance companies to avoid paying out on damage created by storms.
