While doing a tidy up I find a spider that can help me control the Redback spiders in my backyard. If I find a spider egg sac with spiderlings I move the spiders to where I know Redback spiders are a problem. It's early days in this backyard science experiment. Sadly the metal garden ornament Mrs Cow has departed. She was nothing more than a constant Redback spider nest. I also show some curious nocturnal fury friends who live in the Choko vine.
Information related to the Grey House Spider
While this species may establish in garden shrubs, it has a fondness for the undersides of outdoor furniture and other open containers. Its general shape resembles that of a redback spider but its colour scheme is very different. Note that Isbister and Gray (Journal of toxicology; Clinical toxicology, 2003, Vol. 41, pages 809-819) have recorded that bites by Achaeaeanea (or equivalent) species in Australia can cause moderate to severe local pain though probably no systemic effects.
