Chronic Panic Buying Empty Shelves Cause & Effect Study After Stop Hoarding Message ─ leokimvideo

The mass panic buying and over purchasing of essential items has intensified after the Prime Minister asked the Australian people to STOP HOARDING. This retail supply chain breakdown study covers the time after the STOP HOARDING message in mid March to Easter break 2020. For 6 weeks now toilet paper has been very difficult to purchase and all retailers now have restrictions on purchases covering many essential items. It's been impossible to find soap and hand sanitiser and they are really important. Now there is a lockdown in place this has made some retailers catch up with some essential supplies but the intensity of purchasing is still very high. What was really sad to see is some retailers change the format of the shops and remove the weekly specials from the end of aisles. What replaced the specials were bulk items set on pallets selling for the maximum price. This change happened just after the Prime Minister's STOP HOARDING message. Sadly when you go shopping now and you have a simple shopping list of say 10 or 15 everyday items you will be lucky to achieve half your shopping list. Yes the shops are restocking but the demand is still outstripping the supply to store. I see the same people taking more and more toilet paper each day. How much do people need? Grabbing the very little toilet paper that's delivered to store has become a badge of honour and retail shopping achievement. This mass over purchasing and cause and effect of the empty shelves syndrome is not going away. This 2020 retail virus crisis is going to make all countries look very carefully where essential products are made, the deep dependance on good made in China needs to stop.

It's worth hearing what PM Scott Morrison is doing, the ABC news video sets up the direction Australia is taking.
