Full video of a destructive rain storm that happened an hour after a massive hail storm which destroyed cars and homes across Sydney on December 20 2018. This was a White Christmas flooding no one wanted. The severe storm warning issued prior to the storm were very general in nature, covering an area the size of England. This Summer was very hot humid and stormy, hail storms are part of the Sydney storm cycle. But getting huge tennis ball hail stones is fairly rare. The
hail storm lasted roughly 8 mins, then the rain storm lasted 15 mins.
The temperature swings during the storms were massive. This rain event was so destructive because most people had no way to fix the damaged tiles on their homes. It just added another layer of misery to what was a very broken suburb. Large hail is very destructive, it strips trees of foalage, breaks roof tiles, dents metal roofs, turns cars into golf balls, smashed windows and car windscreens and can cause injury to people. Any thunderstorm which produces hail that reaches the ground is known as a hailstorm. Hail has a diameter of 5 millimetres (0.20 in) or more. Hailstones can grow to 15 centimetres (6 in) and weigh more than 0.5 kilograms (1.1 lb). This Berowra hail storm had hail size up to 8 centimeters. Often the hail was unusual shapes or had spiky ice formations.
During the Summer storm period often we send warnings to others in the suburb that there is trouble coming, the only warning I received was a text message in the morning. This massive hail storm seemed to pop out of nowhere.
This video was put together 7 months after the hail and rain storm, some homes are now fixed but many are still covered in tarpaulins or storm seal. Many residents in Berowra and Berowra Heights are still fighting with insurance companies in relation to the scope of works and repairs required. Some hail affected cars have become fraud cases even though the hail damage is totally consistent with catastrophic hail. So many stories of insurance company games have passed my ears over the last 7 months. Some of these stories have reached the mainstream media.
