Dog poo on the streets is a huge problem. The trick is how to pick up dog poo without touching it. There are laws related to picking up dog poop in many countries. But there is also a disturbing trend for people to leave bagged dog poo all through the suburb. The problem is once a poo is bagged it will be around for 1 million years. There is no way for the poo to be broken down by nature. Flies usually lay maggots into fresh poo and they digest much of the poo. I have been investigating this problem for years and I know the person who's doing some of this dog poop dumping. When I looked into the history of why dog owners have to pick up dog poo I see there is a huge industry of dog poo bags, pooper scoopers and poo collection aides. There are also very hefty fines for not cleaning up after a dog and not carrying poop bags. This varies depending where you live. I have seen some dog owners use small sprays to crush the smell of dog feces prior to picking up. VIPoo does this quite well.
A number of jurisdictions, including New York City, have laws requiring pet owners to clean up after their pets: A person who owns, possesses or controls a dog, cat or other animal shall not permit the animal to commit a nuisance on a sidewalk of any public place, on a floor, wall, stairway or roof of any public or private premises used in common by the public, or on a fence, wall or stairway of a building abutting on a public. The Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996 is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The purpose of the Act was to create a criminal offence if a dog defecates at any time on designated land and a person who is in charge of the dog at that time fails to remove the faeces from the land forthwith.
